"In Portugal, the word saudade is used to characterise feelings of nostalgia, particularly memories of loved ones who have passed away. In this piece, Amalia Rodrigues is remembered for her musical ability that was said to personify this powerful concept. Amalia elevated the presence of Portugal to the rest of the world and became a pioneer of the Fado genre. She is warmly remembered as the Queen of Fado. Dario has depicted Amalia playing a Portuguese guitar in Alfama, a neighbourhood famed for its connection to Fado. 'O Gente da minha Terra' translates to people of my land.
