Collection: Pietro Sanna
Pietro Sanna is a Sardinian-born ceramist based in York, where he continues to develop his artistic practice in ceramics. His journey into the world of art began with a broad interest in various artistic forms, leading him to pursue a degree in Contemporary 3D Craft at York College. It was during his studies that Pietro became captivated by the ceramic medium, finding it a perfect means of exploring his creative ideas.
Pietro creates both hand-built and slip-cast vessels, using them as vehicles for rich and diverse narratives. His work is deeply informed by experimentation with clay and an intuitive understanding of its possibilities. He employs coil-built techniques to produce asymmetrical and organic shapes, layering abstract visual stories in each piece. His slip-cast vessels, often produced in multiples, explore themes of deconstruction, simplicity, and the relationship between form and color.
In addition to his ceramics, Pietro integrates his vessels into his fine art practice, using them as canvases for his paintings and as objects to engage with the third dimension. Since graduating, Pietro has participated in numerous selected exhibitions, establishing himself as a promising voice in the contemporary ceramics scene.
